Overview

The basic pattern is similar to printed books with some important additions.

Standard Form

Author Initials. Title. Nth Edition [omit if 1st]. Place: publisher; date. Figure, [Title]; page.

Examples

Hill RG, Rang HP, editors. Drug discovery and development. Edinburgh : Churchill Livingston; 2013. Fig. 2.1, [The components of disease]; p. 22.

Citation in Text

Remember this will be a running number at the first use of a reference. If the reference is re-used then repeat the number allocated. Keep your style constant, either parenthesis (number) throughout, or superscript number. Do not change between the two. If your department recommends a particular style then use that.
